Loy’s Station Bridge (Alan, Va Safaris Critiques)
Classic composition and well executed. The image is well exposed and composed. I like the use of the tree to the right to balance
the weight of the bridge to the left. The choice to use HDR and flatten the image and use subdued washed out colors lends to a story
book feel and look to the image where it looks to be almost a colored pencil illustration. I love the rolling lines of the road up hill and
into the bridge and the amount of room left just past the bridge. The shadows in the grass in the foreground help add layers which in
scenics are of utmost importance. With a landscape it is important to have at a minimum a foreground, mid ground and background.
If you were studying under Ansel Adams, you would learn he did not even set up for a shot unless there were a minimum of four layers
exhibited by light and dark tonalities. Without this layering he felt the image would not be strong enough to pull the viewer into the
image.
